The things that can change the environment are antibiotic or steroid use, diabetes, weakened immune system, hormonal changes such as pregnancy, use of birth control pills and hormone therapy, frequent use of douches or female hygeine sprays. Pessaries (Suppositories)

Just be warned that Tea Tree pessaries can sting initially if you are very sensitive. Calendula and goldenseal or echinacea are often combined in a pessary as well. Use one pessary (suppository) every 12 – 24 hours for up to 14 days.

Garlic

Garlic has anti-fungal properties and a whole clove of peeled garlic can be used as a pessary (suppository). Wrap in a small piece of gauze or fine muslin with trailing ends for easy removal. Dip in vegetable oil to lubricate before inserting into the vagina as high as possible. Use a new clove every 12 hours and continue treatment for at least 5 days.

Boric Acid

Researchers in several studies concluded that 600 mg boric acid suppositories or pessaries were just as or more effective in curing vaginal yeast infections than the drugs Fluconazole (Diflucan) and Itraconazole (Sporanox). Boric acid acts as an antifungal and antibacterial. Use 1 every 12 hours and continue for 7 – 14 days.

One company combines boric acid with a number of anti-fungal herbs and essential oils in a product called Yeast Arrest. Many women have found this a wonderful natural remedy for the cure of persistent infection with yeast. Just be aware that it can cause irritation and burning in a few very sensitive people.

Some practitioners recommend using acidophilus capsules in addition to the boric acid. In some cases it is possible for acidophilus to make the pH environment too acid for the good bacteria so discontinue if it is making the condition worse.

Douches

Hydrogen Peroxide

Mix 1 teaspoon of ordinary 3% hydrogen peroxide from your chemist or pharmacy with 1 cup of water and use as a douche once a day until your symptoms improve.

Pau D’Arco Tea

To make the tea put 1 heaping tablespoon of Pau D’Arco Tea into a saucepan and add 1 quart (1 liter) of water. Bring to boil and simmer on lowest heat possible for 30 minutes. Allow to cool. Strain and use as a douche alternately with garlic tea. You can drink the tea as well. Keep any surplus in a lidded glass jar in the fridge.

Garlic tea

Garlic is a natural anti-fungal. Bring 4 cups pure water to the boil. Turn off heat and add 4 – 5 crushed cloves of garlic.Let steep for 20 minutes before straining. Allow to cool to body temperature before using.

Grapefruit seed extract

Make a douche solution with 6 – 10 drops to each cup of water.

How to douche

You can get various douche kits. The best ones consist of a bag or rigid container and a length of tubing with a clamp and douche nozzle. Many instructions tell you to use a bulb douche standing up but the solution will stay in contact with your vaginal tissues longer if you lie down in an empty bath and allow the solution to run in slowly. Any remaining inside you will come out when you stand up.

Hang the bag about 2 feet above the level of your pelvis. Always use the solution at body temperature and make sure you sterilize the douche nozzle and container afterwards with a natural sterilizer such as grapefruit seed extract.

Celery Juice is a Natural Cure for High Blood Pressure

The fact that the frequent intake of fresh fruit and vegetable juices with a healthy diet can lower blood pressure has been known for a long time but a recent experiment showed that celery juice is a natural cure for high blood pressure.

Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood. In a recent experiment using celery juice, a doctor from a well known alternative center in the USA resulted in her father’s systolic blood pressure (the top figure) reducing from 148 to 128 and her own from 120 to 105.

They both drank celery juice from one bunch of celery mixed with a little orange juice to counteract the bitterness that celery juice sometimes has, every day for a month. The fact that the frequent intake of fresh fruit and vegetable juices can lower blood pressure has been known for a long time but it was always presumed that it was the high intake of potassium, other minerals and antioxidants in the juices that did it.

Celery contains the compound 3-n-butyl-phthalide which relaxes the muscles in the walls of the arteries which widens them and allows the blood to fow more freely thorugh them. Pthalides also reduce stress hormones which can cause blood vessels to constrict.

In a previous post I wrote about the research that showed that beet juice is also effective for lowering blood pressure through the formation of nitrite which dilates blood vessels. So instead of sweetening the celery juice with orange juice why not try beet juice. The two make an ideal combination.

Other diet and lifestyle changes can help reduce high blood pressure:

  • Increase fruit and vegetables and whole grains
  • Reduce and preferable eliminate sugar and salt
  • Restrict animal fat
  • Eat more low mercury oily fish or take some Omega 3 capsules
  • Limit alcohol to one drink a day
  • Lose weight if overweight
  • Increase exercise – walking, swimming and cycling are good
  • Reduce stress – try yoga or meditation
  • Give up smoking

Restless Legs Natural Cure?

Restless legs is a condition where there is a very strong urge to move one or both of your legs. You could have other feelings as well that have been described as crawling, tingling, itching or pulling sensations. Moving the legs can give relief even if only for a short time.   • Iron deficiency has been put forward as an underlying cause but it seems that taking iron supplements is not the solution although some people with proven iron deficiency have had some temporary relief when they improved their iron levels.One study indicated that the middle brain the area thought to be associated with the condition lacked iron receptors.
  • Folic acid deficiency- low levels of this B vitamin have been found in some people with the syndrome. Eat more green leafy vegetables.
  • Food intolerance – identifying foods that you are intolerant to and avoiding them can improve symptoms.
  • Pregnancy – some women get RLS for the first time during the last 3 months of pregnancy. Hormonal changes are thought to be involved.
  • Nerotransmitter imbalance – some researchers think it could be due to low levels of the brain chemical dopamine. Some laboratories now do neurotransmitter testing through urine samples.
  • Drug side effects – RLS can occur in some people who take antidepressants, antipsychotics, dopamine antagonists, antihistamines, calcium channel blockers, anti-seizure drugs like phenytoin or steroids.
  • Symptom of other conditions. – people with kidney failure, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, and underactive thyroid may also suffer from restless legs.

Restless Legs Natural Cure

  • Avoiding caffeine from coffee, tea, cola beverages, cocoa from all sources including chocolate has helped some people.
  • Stop smoking and drinking alcohol.
  • Avoid foods that you are allergic or intolerant to.
  • Increase walking – take long daily walks every day.

Natural Remedies To Cure Male Yeast Infection


What is male yeast infection?

A male yeast infection usually refers to a fungal infection at the tip of penis known as Balanitis although it can refer to an infection anywhere in the groin region. It is often referred to as “itchers” because of the intense itching it causes. Other signs of the infection are a white discharge, blisters on the penis, burning and redness. The penis is often swollen particularly after sex.

How do you get a male yeast infection?

Tight and synthetic clothing make the wearer perspire giving the yeast organisms just the conditions they favor. Loose cotton underpants are the best thing to wear to give adequate ventilation.

A common way a man can get a yeast infection is from his partner during intercourse. Vaginal yeast infections are very common in women and the infection gets passed back and forth. If one partner has a yeast infection it is important that both get treated. Condoms that use spermicide have also been blamed for causing the problem.

The use of antibioitics and diets high in sugar and alcohol can encourage the overgrowth of Candida yeast in the intestines which predisposes the person to infections elsewhere on the body. The standard medical treatment is with antifungal drugs. Diflucan, a one dose treatment, is reputed to cure the infection quickly but if the conditions that caused the yeast infection in the first place are not improved it can and often does recur.

Sometimes antifungal creams are prescribed but Clotrimaderm for example can have same side effects as the symptoms which is not pleasant. Some men have resorted to antifungal vaginal creams that are used by women. They can work well in treating male yeast infection too.

Natural health remedies for treating the yeast infection:

  • Wash the infected area regularly and dry with a clean towel.
  • Paint the area with natural yogurt. The bacteria help crown out the yeast and improve the pH of the skin.
  • Its also a good idea to eat a small tub of a good live natural yogurt every day for several weeks.
  • An alternative is to apply a few drops of diluted Tea Tree oil to the area every day. It is a natural antifungal. You can also put a few drops in a shallow bath.
  • Try soaking in a luke warm bath with half cup of vinegar and a half cup of salt for about 20 minutes.
  • Use fresh garlic, a natural antifungal, on your food as much as possible or take a low odor capsule.
  • Herbal supplements of Oregano or Olive leaf are also effective against yeast.
  • Avoid sexual contact until your condition is completely better.
  • Avoid sugar, refined carbohydrate foods and alcohol and make sure to include plenty of fresh vegetables and salads. Use natural sugar free dressings.

Protect Yourself With Natural Insect Repellents This Summer

If you want to keep the bugs away this summer then natural remedies are far safer and just as effective as the the toxic chemicals in over the counter insect repellents. Most commercial insect repellents contain DEET (diethyl-meta-toluamide), a pesticide that enters your blood stream and can cause a number of harmful side effects to your organs.

A study of DEET on rats showed that it caused death of brain cells. The chemical has been proven to enter the bloodstream when applied to the skin and researchers believe that heavy exposure to it or other insecticides can cause headache, loss of memory, fatigue, weakness and muscle and joint pain and shortness of breath in humans. It is however classified by the US Environmental Protection Agency as “practically non-toxic”. It apparently does not penetrate the skin. Avon’s Skin So Soft Bug Guard is one of the many products that contain it.

Natural Alternatives to Toxic DEET

Many aromatic plant oils naturally repel mosquitoes, midges and flies. Many natural products contain a combination of oils such as citronella, rosemary, bergamot, geranium, lemongrass, and peppermint oils. Citronella and oil of lemon eucalyptus are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC).

Neem oil, pressed from the seeds of the Indian Neem tree is a very powerful insect repellent. Just a hint of its smell seems to keep the insects away and it is particularly effective against malaria mosquitoes.

A UK company has developed Citriodiol® a synthetic version of the oil that is obtained from the eucalyptus citriodora tree. One problem with natural insect repellents is that they usually have to be applied more frequently than the chemical ones. Lewey’s Eco Blends formerly known as Buzz Off is one that claims to be effective for up to 4 hours. It contains rosemary, thyme, lemongrass, geranium and peppermint.Studies have shown that it is still 94.7% effective after 4 hours and more effective than 6% to 10% DEET.

Make your own spray with these recipes:

5 drops Eucalyptus
2 drops Geranium
4 drops Lemon
1 drop Peppermint
1/4 teaspoon olive oil
3 T. water (distilled if possible)

Pour all ingredients into a 2-ounce spray bottle and shake to blend. Spray on exposed areas of the skin. Re-apply every 2 hours.

Or try this recipe:

20 drops Eucalyptus oil
20 drops Cedarwood oil
10 drops Tea Tree oil
10 drops Geranium oil
2 oz. carrier oil ( such as Jojoba )

Mix together in a 4 oz. container. Apply to skin as needed avoiding the eye area. Keep out of reach of children. Test on a small area of skin for sensitivities .

Protect yourself from insects

Insects are attracted by skin odors and carbon dioxide from exhaled breath. The active ingredients in repellents make the person unattractive for feeding but there are a few other things you can do to help deter them.

  • Avoid being outdoors for long stretches at a time when you are hot as you release more carbon dioxide.
  • Try not to be outdoors after an intense workout. Vigorous exercise can result in significant lactic acid build-up in your muscles, and lactic acid is a strong attractant of mosquitoes.
  • Eating salty foods can also cause you to produce higher-than-normal amounts of lactic acid. Avoid them where possible.
  • Perspiration attracts mosquitoes via the chemicals it contains so if you perspire heavily wipe it off regularly.
  • Wear light colored clothing as dark clothing attracts the bugs.

Is there a Natural Remedy for Infertility?

There has been a huge rise in the problem of infertility in both men and women in recent years. And in spite of all the advances in IVF there are many couples who do not want the emotional strain, the dangerous effects of the unnatural hormones on their bodies or the risk of multiple and premature births. So, understandably they are asking if there is a natural remedy for infertility.

What is infertility?

The medical definition of infertility is the inability to get pregnant after numerous attempts without contraception over a 12 month period.
