Natural Remedies To Help You Beat Stress

Filed under :adaptogen herbs, cortisol, Holosync, Holothink, natural remedies, relaxation techniques, stress

Feeling stressed out lately? Everyone encounters stress in their lives. You may have been affected by the current economic crisis or other bad news. Perhaps you get stressed out at work or you have family problems or an illness. Maybe you eat too much sugar or don’t get enough sleep. Whether physical or emotional your adrenal glands help you beat stress and help you cope.

These 2 glands that sit on top of your kidneys produce the hormone cortisol to help you go beyond the limits if of usual endurance when you need it. Cortisol is meant to help relieve various types of stress for only a short period. Once the stress is over your body should return to a relaxed state and the cortisol levels should return to normal. Unfortunately in today’s high paced lifestyles the stress response is being activated virtually all the time.

When these higher levels of cortisol stay in the blood stream it can have adverse effects on your health. It can:

  • Interfere with brain chemicals and prevent normal memory function
  • Suppress thyroid function
  • Cause blood sugar imbalances
  • Decrease bone density
  • Cause breakdown in muscle tissue

  • Increase blood pressure
  • Lower immunity
  • Impair wound healing and other health consequences
  • Increase bad cholesterol

  • Increase abdominal fat with all the associated health risks

In the short term the increase in cortisol increases metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and fat producing instant energy for your body to use. Many of the detrimental effects of stress are related to the increased loss of nutrients caused by the increase in metabolism.

Some Natural Health Remedies to help you beat stress

Diet

It is important to have a well balanced nutritious diet to replace the nutrients that may be lost during stress. High levels of stress often leads to unhealthy eating and drinking. Refined and junk foods just put extra stress on your body. Coffee creates anxiety and panic. Alcohol is a poison and a depressant although many people believe it to be a stimulant and should not be used to handle stress.

Whole grains, fresh vegetables, fruits and some good protein will help replace the nutrients that are being lost. Complex carbohydrates like whole grain cereals, beans and potatoes have a calming effect on the brain.

Nutritional supplements

B complex vitamins are needed by the nervous system and to produce adrenal hormones. A lot of Vitamin C is used by the adrenal glands during stressful episodes. Adding some extra B Vitamins and Vitamin C can help support your body.

Herbs such as Astragalus and Ginseng are adaptogenic herbs and can help the body resist stress and have a balancing effect. They are often found in combination with other adaptogens such as Ashwagandha, Schizandra, Wild Yam, Dandelion Root, and Licorice Root. Ginseng should not be used of you have high blood pressure or hypoglycemia. Licorice root should be deglycyrrhized.

Sleep

Trying to get by on too little sleep leads to depression and irritability. Getting enough sleep is important for the body to repair itself and could make a significant difference in the quality of your life.

Exercise

Exercise is a great stress reducer even if you don’t feel like it. It increases the circulation to help get rid of stress hormones and helps to increase the production of endorphins, those brain chemicals that make you feel good. Just a word of warning – too much exercise without adequate rest can increase cortisol levels.

Relaxation techniques

Regularly practising some form of relaxation is a great stress buster and can dramatically improve your physical and mental wellbeing.

Yoga can help you manage stress and anxiety and induce a complete peacefulness of body and mind. Meditation produces a deep state of relaxation,a tranquil mind and sense of calm.

Thanks to discoveries by scientists you don’t have to suffer the ill effects of stress any longer. Natural Remedies for Vaginal Yeast Infections

Filed under :boric acid, candida albicans, candida glabrata, douches, natural remedies, vaginal pessaries, vaginal suppositories, vaginal yeast infections

Vaginal yeast infection is something that most women have had at some time in their lives. It is a very uncomfortable condition that is caused by an increase in the normal yeast that is present in the vagina. Doctors usually prescribe an anti-fungal medication that is taken by mouth or as vaginal pessaries (suppositories) but many women prefer to use natural remedies to cure the problem.

The yeast infection can be caused by a number of yeast organisms but Candida Albicans and Candida Glabrata are the most common. Candida Glabrata infections are more difficult to treat and are often resistant to many or the normal anti-fungal drugs.

Symptoms

The most common symptoms are a burning or itching sensation, redness, soreness of the vaginal or vulval area. A vaginal discharge may or may not be present.

Causes

The vagina is normally inhabited by a number of microorganisms that create an acidic environment. When the balance of these organisms is upset and/or the pH balance changes yeast can grow out of control and become an infection.

The things that can change the environment are antibiotic or steroid use, diabetes, weakened immune system, hormonal changes such as pregnancy, use of birth control pills and hormone therapy, frequent use of douches or female hygeine sprays. The infection can be passed back and forth between partners unless both are treated.

Many health practitioners believe that recurrent vaginal yeast infections are linked to Candida overgrowth in the bowel. If this is the case then treatment for intestinal yeast overgrowth will also improve the vaginal Candida.

Natural Remedies

A number of natural remedies can cure the infection without the side effects of drugs.

Pessaries (Suppositories)

Herbs

Tea Tree oil vaginal pessaries (suppositories) have proved very successful for the infection. It is sometimes combined with lavender essential oil. Just be warned that Tea Tree pessaries can sting initially if you are very sensitive. Calendula and goldenseal or echinacea are often combined in a pessary as well. Use one pessary (suppository) every 12 – 24 hours for up to 14 days.

Garlic

Garlic has anti-fungal properties and a whole clove of peeled garlic can be used as a pessary (suppository). Wrap in a small piece of gauze or fine muslin with trailing ends for easy removal. Dip in vegetable oil to lubricate before inserting into the vagina as high as possible. Use a new clove every 12 hours and continue treatment for at least 5 days.

Boric Acid

Researchers in several studies concluded that 600 mg boric acid suppositories or pessaries were just as or more effective in curing vaginal yeast infections than the drugs Fluconazole (Diflucan) and Itraconazole (Sporanox). Boric acid acts as an antifungal and antibacterial. Use 1 every 12 hours and continue for 7 – 14 days.

One company combines boric acid with a number of anti-fungal herbs and essential oils in a product called Yeast Arrest. Many women have found this a wonderful natural remedy for the cure of persistent infection with yeast. Just be aware that it can cause irritation and burning in a few very sensitive people.

Some practitioners recommend using acidophilus capsules in addition to the boric acid. In some cases it is possible for acidophilus to make the pH environment too acid for the good bacteria so discontinue if it is making the condition worse.

Douches

Although regular douching can alter the pH balance of the vagina and contribute to yeast overgrowth douching with anti-fungal herbs and other substances can be a useful health remedy against yeast infections.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Mix 1 teaspoon of ordinary 3% hydrogen peroxide from your chemist or pharmacy with 1 cup of water and use as a douche once a day until your symptoms improve.

Pau D’Arco Tea

To make the tea put 1 heaping tablespoon of Pau D’Arco Tea into a saucepan and add 1 quart (1 liter) of water. Bring to boil and simmer on lowest heat possible for 30 minutes. Allow to cool. Strain and use as a douche alternately with garlic tea. You can drink the tea as well. Keep any surplus in a lidded glass jar in the fridge.

Garlic tea

Garlic is a natural anti-fungal. Bring 4 cups pure water to the boil. Turn off heat and add 4 – 5 crushed cloves of garlic.Let steep for 20 minutes before straining. Allow to cool to body temperature before using.

Grapefruit seed extract

Make a douche solution with 6 – 10 drops to each cup of water.

How to douche

You can get various douche kits. The best ones consist of a bag or rigid container and a length of tubing with a clamp and douche nozzle. Many instructions tell you to use a bulb douche standing up but the solution will stay in contact with your vaginal tissues longer if you lie down in an empty bath and allow the solution to run in slowly. Any remaining inside you will come out when you stand up.

Hang the bag about 2 feet above the level of your pelvis. Always use the solution at body temperature and make sure you sterilize the douche nozzle and container afterwards with a natural sterilizer such as grapefruit seed extract.

Other tips

Wear only cotton panties.
Avoid wearing panty hose or tights
Wear skirts and not trousers, slacks or jeans.
Avoid wearing pajamas.
Follow an anti Candida diet.

Natural Remedies for Rosacea

Filed under :acne rosacea, Demodex, Helicobacter pylori, natural remedies, rosacea

Rosacea is a distressing inflammatory skin condition that commonly affects about 1 in 20 people and is common in adult women but can be severe in men. It is also known as Acne Rosacea as the condition is characterized by chronic acne like eruptions on the face with redness, spider veins, and facial flushing. Antibiotics can control the condition but many people are looking for natural remedies for Rosacea.

Although Rosacea usually affects the face it can appear on the neck and chest and even the eyes causing dryness, tearing, burning and swelling of the eye lids. In some cases the skin on the nose becomes thickened. It has a tendency to flare up when certain triggers cause the blood vessels in the face to expand although the exact cause is not known. Conventional Acne treatments may make the condition worse. Natural remedies include the use of diet, nutritional supplements and herbal creams.

Low stomach acid

Some studies have shown that sufferers have low gastric acid or decreased secretion of the enzyme lipase from the pancreas. Low gastric acid is associated with an overgrowth of bacteria in the stomach which may make the Rosacea flare. An infection of the bacteria Helicobacter pylori is thought to play a part in Rosacea although it is not considered to be the cause. People with low gastric acid who have taken hydrochloric acid supplements have noticed a vast improvement in their symptoms. Lack of lipase is treated with pancreatic supplements.

Food Triggers

The lack of protein digestion due to low gastric acid could lead to food intolerance which could trigger a flare up although some health practitioners state that food allergy is not a factor. Nevertheless some foods do appear to trigger a typical Rosacea flush. Coffee, alcohol, hot drinks and spicy foods are known triggers. Many sufferers are sensitive to changes of temperature, sun, wind and stress.

Vitamin B deficiency

Deficiency of Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is common in Rosacea and taking large doses of B vitamins has been effective as a natural remedy for the condition. Researchers have found that a number of Rosacea sufferers were infected with the skin mite Demodex Folliculorum. Interestingly, in lab experiments researchers were only able to infect the skin of Vitamin B 2 deficient rats with the mite.

Quit Smoking and Prevent Emphysema Now with Lung Detox

Filed under :emphysema, lung detox, natural remedies, quit smoking

Have you just decided to quit smoking again after hearing that the singer Amy Winehouse has just been diagnosed with emphysema? Cigarette smoking is the major cause of emphysema, a serious disease of the lungs. If you quit smoking now you can prevent many health problems associated with it including emphysema, lung cancer, high cholesterol, hardening of the arteries and blood clots.

Smoking deprives your body of oxygen poisoning you with carbon monoxide which causes death of nerve cells. Smoking poisons you with the toxic metal cadmium which blocks the function of a vital mineral zinc, increases copper which causes depression. You want to smoke or drink to feel better. It becomes a vicious cycle so its not surprising that it is hard to quit smoking.

How does it cause emphysema?

Smoking irritates the lungs and certain clean up cells of the immune system try to get rid of the particles that you inhale. In certain people with a genetic defect the side effect of this clean up is that a protein substance that enables the lungs to expand and contract is destroyed. The lungs loose their elasticity and you find it hard to breathe.

Natural remedies can help you quit smoking

There are many natural remedies that claim to help you quit smoking from acupuncture to herbs such as St John’s Wort that increase certain brain chemicals that make you feel good. People who are addicted to smoking are thought to have an imbalance of these brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters. Others with these imbalances take drugs because they can also make them feel good too.

There is evidence that eating lightly makes it easier to give up. Eat as many fresh fruit and vegetables as you can. You can still eat some animal protein but make vegetables or fruit 80 % of each meal. Eat mainly fruit for breakfast with a little plain live sugar free yogurt.

A 36 hour juice fast can also lessen cravings for cigarettes considerably. Try 4 – 6 8 oz vegetable or fruit juices a day over a week-end while you rest as much as possible. Use organic produce to avoid more toxins. Break the fast by eating a small salad or some fruit.

Lung Detox

You could also try a lung detox. David Rhodes has written a no frills, no fluff guide with an easy 5 part plan to help you detox your lungs and easily quit smoking. Following this plan will make it much easier to give up smoking however many times you have tried and failed. The book contains detailed information about natural remedies to detox your lungs clearing then of tar and toxins that lead to emphysema.

With the right food supplements, vitamins and exercise you can detox the toxins from your lungs in less than 1 year. Many people have testified to the effectiveness of this program.

He does include one drug based remedy but he includes it for good reason. You do not have to use this if you are totally opposed to drugs. There are natural alternatives such as steam inhalations with the addition of 3 – 5 drops in total of the essential oils of eucalyptus, thyme and rosemary.

I think you could also add Vitamin C to his plan. Smoking destroys Vitamin C and all smokers are likely to be deficient in it. Adding 3 – 6 grams of Vitamin C a day in divided doses can help detox nicotine and make good the deficiency. If you take too much it can upset your bowels so start with the lower dose and gradually work up to the higher dose. Most smokers can tolerate this dose easily. A buffered or neutral pH vitamin C will not upset your stomach.

You can quit smoking easily and help your lungs turn from toxic black to a healthy pink in under a year by following this simple plan. Learn more about it now.

Pregnancy and Fertility problems

Filed under :detox, fertility problems, infertility, natural remedies, pregnancy

Fertility problems are twice as common as previously thought. A recent study found that 36% of couples with fertility problems have a least 3 sessions of IVF costing up to £8,000 a time but less than half these treatments result in pregnancy.

It is a great shame that more information is not given to these couples about natural remedies for pregnancy and treatments for infertility. Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years to help balance a woman’s hormones to increase fertility.

Advances in hormone testing that plots a woman’s sex hormones every 3 – 4 days over one monthly cycle can pick up problems with hormone balance that the routine tests do not. Estrogen dominance and the sudden drop of progesterone at the end of a cycle are common causes of infertility or the inability to maintain a pregnancy.

Foresight, the association for the promotion of pre-conceptual care, has excellent results with previously infertile couples by correcting nutritional deficiencies and reducing toxic metals in both partners.

Low or imbalanced minerals and the presence of toxic metals are determined by hair mineral analysis. Practitioners who use the system recommend a more nutritional diet with supplements of highly absorbable vitamins and minerals to correct the deficiencies. Specific supplements are given to reduce the metals that can interfere with minerals that are needed for proper hormone balance and fertility.

Couples are also advised to get checked for Chlamydia, a sexually transmitted disease, that can present without any obvious symptoms. Chlamydia is one cause of blocked fallopian tubes, pelvic inflammatory disease, and thought to be related to endometriosis.

Well informed couples are also taking measures to detox chemicals from their bodies that are likely to be interfering with fertility. Many synthetic chemicals that end up being stored on our bodies are known as hormone or estrogen mimics as they can behave like the natural hormone estrogen.

Researchers have found that babies are born with a number of chemicals in their blood that have been passed from the mother. Parents who want to avoid this are choosing to undergo detox programs that help top get rid of these chemicals or certainly lower them as much as possible before getting pregnant.

It has been proven that if both parents follow a nutritious diet and healthy lifestyle, take specific nutritional supplements or herbal remedies and live relatively free from pollutants for some months prior to trying to get pregnant they will not only improve their fertility, but will also significantly reduce their chances of having a miscarriage or labor complications.
